Côte d’Ivoire, Tano Basin
The Ivorian side of the Tano Basin currently presents outstanding potential for the new Baleine Play and proven clastic plays
With industry support, CGG is currently undertaking PSDM reimaging over 6,400 km2 of seismic adjacent to the world-class Baleine field using its cutting technology with spectacular imaging uplift already observed in the fast-track volume, which was ready in March 2024. This cutting-edge data presents a yet-to-be-seen opportunity to reveal further perspectives on the Baleine play and proven classic plays. Final reprocessing products will be available by the end of 2024.
Highlights
- 6,434 km2 of cutting-edge PreSDM 3D multi-client data re-imaged in 2024, covering shallow to deep water about 3 km from the Baleine field (fast-track data completed Q1 2024)
- 4,400 km2 3D BroadSeis™ BroadSource™ data delivers full-bandwidth broadband data for high-resolution imaging, targeting the Cretaceous reservoir intervals (final data available)
- Data covering the Pelican and Paon discoveries, next to the world-class Baleine Field as well as Calao discoveries
- Marine gravity and magnetic surveys available
Reveal reservoir potential with 3D broadband seismic
The Eastern Grand Bassam sub-basin can be considered the western continuation of the prolific Tano basin, offshore Cote d’Ivoire. Exploration has been traditionally focused within water depths of up to 500 m, with a number of important discoveries spread along the Ivorian margin. More recently, the latest discoveries in deep marine settings, such as Paon, Pelican, Rossignol, have switched attention to the more distal domains of the basin.
The Baleine discovery, a few kilometers East of the CGG 3D seismic coverage, represents the largest discovery offshore Africa in 2021 and one of the biggest worldwide for that year. In July 2022, results from its appraisal program increased volume estimates by around 25% and in August 2023 the Baleine-1x well was drilled. Hydrocarbons in place in the Baleine Field were estimated at 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of associated gas. These estimates further increase confidence in the prospects in this once-ignored basin.
CGG’s uniquely placed broadband data has unmatched potential to further unravel prospectivity in this basin. This discovery not only opens the door for a new play concept, but also sheds more light on key questions related to reservoir and source facies.
